Michael McDonald, a popular singer in the 70’s and 80’s, has been enlisted to by Thundercat for a new single called “Show You The Way.” Thundercat is a singer-bassist who is known for crossing many musical genres. He has played in punk band Suicidal Tendencies, and also released his own funk/fusion inspired solo albums. The first song off Thundercat’s new album Drunk, due out in February features both Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins.
The new song “Show You the Way” was performed live on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Although maybe different from McDonald’s previous work (Steeley Dan, The Doobie Brothers), the proves that even artists in their 60’s, with careers spanning multiple decades can be versatile and are confined to one genre and style of music. Artists and their art are in a constant state of flux. This collaboration with an artist such as Thundercat, exposes Michael McDonald and all of his music to a whole new generation and crowd. Who says you can’t teach an old dog a new trick?
