“The Best Guitar player alive.” That’s what Eric Clapton said about Buddy Guy. Now we know why. Last Thursday night, Buddy Guy absolutely scorched the Music Circus stage. He played an incredible set, his voice and fingers as nimble as ever. So lucky we were to have a legend here, and so lucky the fans who got to see a blues icon up close — some VERY close — as he strode into the adoring crowd.

2014 has been a big year for country star Martina McBride, and the momentum doesn’t seem to be slowing down any time soon. McBride released the cover of her new cookbook, ‘Around the Table’ on Twitter earlier this week and she said the response from followers has been “incredible.”
So why a cookbook? Martina explained that she “has a passion for food and entertaining,” and this book is the ideal place to combine these two things.
When you hear “a capella” what do you think of? Barbershop quartets? Kitschy vaudeville acts? At one time that was spot-on but these days a capella has a place in pop music alongside the biggest names in pop, hip-hop, rock and R & B. For anyone who is new to the genre, a capella is singing without instrumental backup. It started out as religious music. The phrase a capella means “in the manner of the church.”
Later, a capella became the realm of barbershop quartets and college glee clubs. Rumor has it, the first college a capella group began at Rensselaer Polytechnic (outside of Albany, NY) in 1873. That original group was very different from the Harvard Callbacks and Tufts University Beelzebubs everyone knows today.
